doc20130409124115_001Esbon, KS–   Frances “Fran” Devers, age 80 passed away Sunday, April 7, 2013 at the Smith County Memorial Hospital in Smith Center, KS.  She was born June 10, 1932 in Mankato, KS to Frank and Meriel (Hatfield) Carver.  She was a homemaker.

Fran and her family moved from Mankato to Phoenix, AZ in 1934 and then to Colorado for 12 years.  They moved back to the Esbon community is 1946 where she attended school graduating high school in 1950.

Fran moved to Cortez, CO where she worked as a telephone operator before transferring to Roswell, NM.  While there Fran met and married Gordon Edward Biggs in 1951.  Gordon was in the Air Force.  To this union eight children were born.  After a tour to England and Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri the family settled in Niles, MI.  Gordon passed away in June of 1966.

Fran later met and married Roland Devers and moved to Columbus, IN in November of 1979.  They moved back to the Esbon Community in 1994 where they currently lived.

Fran enjoyed crocheting, knitting, crossword puzzles, bingo, sewing, puzzles, music and making dolls.

Survivors include her husband Roland of Esbon, KS;   daughters Marie Rufer (Wayne) of Henderson, NV, Marcia Feagin (Bob) of Midlothian, TX, Mary Ann Long (Andy) of Smith Center, KS, Marsha Jones (Billy) of Haines City, FL, Rita Tidwell (Larry) of Columbus, IN;   step-daughters Kimberly Meek (Greg) Taylorville, IN and Lisa Devers of Wisconsin Rapids, WI;   sons Gordon Biggs (Sally) of Fayetteville, NC, Frank Biggs (Elaine) of Palatine, IL and Tom Biggs of North Vernon, IN;   step-son Kevin Devers (Mary) of Columbus, IN;   sister Roberta Lorence of Smith Center, KS;   24 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Thursday, April 11, 2013 at the mortuary.

Funeral Services will be at 10:30 AM Friday, April 12, 2013 at the Simmons-Rentschler Mortuary.

Burial will follow in the Prairie Home Cemetery in Esbon, KS.

The family requests memorial contributions be given to the Frances Devers Memorial Fund and can be sent in care of the mortuary.
